Web Application Developer

Widgit Software design software to support people with literacy difficulties using graphic symbols to reinforce vocabulary. With more than 25 years experience in the educational software industry, Widgit has pioneered this technology worldwide.

You will be working as part of a small dynamic, creative and professional development team. The ideal candidate will be confident, self motivated and able to work independently, as well as part of this close knit team.

Widgit Software have a suite of industry-leading Windows applications, and are producing browser-based alternatives to these to support the evolving marketplace. You will be building new tools and applications on top of our existing web services.

Job Description

The job is to create and maintain server (Ruby, PHP) code as part of the development of our planned web applications. Due to the small size of the team this will involve input throughout the development cycle including requirements analysis, design, implementation and deployment. This will also involve understanding and contributing to the client (Javascript) code, in order to facilitate interoperation.

Skills required

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent skills with Ruby programming, and ideally also with Rails
  • Experience with intermediate to advanced level Javascript programming, including AJAX
  • Experience with PHP programming
  • Good SQL skills
  • At least three years experience with the relevant technologies
  • Good verbal and written English
  • A good bachelor's degree or higher in a computing or scientific subject an advantage

Details

The hours are 9am to 5.30pm. The office is based in Cubbington, a small village just outside Leamington Spa. There is public transport available to the village. Salary in the region of £30k-£32k
