Symbols and the Internet
Where we are going
Over the years, Widgit have been involved in a number of internet-based projects aimed at making information accessible for all.
For example: since 2006, Widgit have worked with the website design and development company, Solutions Squared on the 'Askability' project for the Children's Society to create a leading-edge, symbol-supported website for disabled children and young people.
Maureen Murray, Project Manager at The Children's Society in Solihull came up with the original idea of a symbolised website for local children and was delighted with the result and the team-work involved:
"It really is amazing to think that all this was just an idea a year ago and now with the help of Widgit Software, Solutions Squared and funding from The Big Lottery it has all become a reality. Askability is a really important step for local children with special needs. I hope they will find it fun & interactive and that it becomes a well used resource for them."
Widgit will continue to develop and promote the use of symbols online with projects like Askability and the extremely well-received SymbolWorld and eLive.
